Open house

I have no idea what comes first, the open house or the Soijree, however, let's start with the open house.

Yup, this is the day whereby the roving people complained about the harshness of walking around with a guitar at their hands, singing it out to the dearest sec 4s whom may join us in the year 2005. Songs we sang during roving includes [Love is all around, Jian Dan Ai, Lemon Tree, Guan Huai Fang Shi]

Actually, it's quite fun, but seriously, it is extremely tiring! We were roving during timeslots allocated for us before heading back to the library at 2.30 and 4.30 for our performance!

I think the songs were played rather good and thus sounded nice! Cool!

The open house proved to be very meaningful for the Guitar Ensemble. As the pioneer batch of guitar members, we staged our first public ensemble performance in the library.

Among the songs played were familiar pieces like ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, ‘Yesterday’, as well as the Filipino love song, ‘Dahil Saiyo’.

We also displayed an array of movie theme songs such as ‘River Kawai’ from the 1957 war movie “Bridge on the River Kwai” and from the 1964 motion picture “Mary Poppins”, ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’.

Although there wasn’t a really huge crowd, the performance was greatly enjoyed, from the appreciative applauses and enthusiastic responses. Our weeks of hard-sweat preparation were not put to waste.

Another highlight was the roving performances. Standing at the foyer and corridors, we sang to the tunes of popular hits using our untrained but sincere voices. The results were pleasant.

All in all, the Guitar Ensemble did a splendid job in the open house, as everyone of us had put in our best to prepare for this major event.

To me, the sacrifice of time was more than worth it.

At the end of the day, no blisters on our fingers could keep away the smiles off our faces as the entire school joined in chorus the new school anthem, “Vision to be the Best”. Spirits were high, which only brought the entire ensemble one step closer to unity.

Tired as we might have been, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during this memorable day.

“Three Cheers for Guitar Ensemble!”
